Dazzling flavors of ancient Portuguese legacies. A definitive Goan blend that hints at flavors not yet discovered & the origins of the Vindaloo. When Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama travelled the high seas in search of distant lands in the 15th Century, his crew brought with them rudimentary preserved meat in wine vinegar and salt, unknowingly the origins of the now world-famous vindaloo, or Vinha d’halos.
When the ships arrived in port at Goa in southern India, he discovered a whole new world of exotic flavours used by the local Goanese, who adapted the preserved meat by adding aromatic and punchy spices. Unsurprisingly, this adaptation was far more tasty than the original! Blending cinnamon, chilli, cumin, cloves, coriander, pepper and turmeric, we have created our own reverence to this most historic and well-travelled blend.
